Mary Katherine Abernathy with Nikki and me in Blacksburg, VA, after a couple day trip to see Virginia Tech play football. Some nasty sun that day!

There are no words to describe what it felt like to receive the tragic news of the passing of Mary Katherine Abernathy.  It is tough to deal with the death of any young person and Mary Katherine is no different.  Her vibrant personality made her fun to be around and will be deeply missed.  I’m not writing a eulogy here, but only thought it would be appropriate to honor a friend by mentioning her here.

I’m reminded that in times like these there are no words that can ease the pain or grief that is felt.  And as many people are pouring out their words of love to the family, I hope this time can be a reminder to us all to share those loving words we have for our family members often, while they are with us even.  If Mary Katherine could hear the words being written about her and spoken about her, I hope she would have already knew that from us.

Pastor Jimmy has written an excellent post on this situation, which I’ll share with you here.  Please read his words.

And if you’re in the Ellicott City, MD, area this Friday, please come celebrate the life of Mary Katherine Abernathy at Bethel Baptist Church at 11:00 am.
